There seems to be controversy on the GM Original pickup bumper guards being the same for all six years.

We at Jim Carter Truck Parts can only assume the rumor became strong when only the 1967-70 all chrome plated bumper guards were available.

Waiting customer’s with 1971-72 pickups could only obtain the 1967-70 design so this is what they used. Some suppliers even advertise as they were all the same and most owners were quite satisfied with these. They just wanted an attractive bumper guard that fit.

For the Perfectionist: 1971-72

A complete new change was introduced in 1971. This was all different with a rubber protective strip down the front. Thus, with a small hit in a parking lot they showed no damage as did the 1967-70 type.

This same design was used as an option through the mid-1980's. Only the cut on the rear edges were changed to fit the shape of later bumpers.
