For the “real” perfectionist

After our 41st year, Jim Carter Truck Parts uncovered a big surprise!

Recently, a person came to our lobby offering 10 used ¾ ton hub caps, hoping credit would be offered against a future parts purchase.

One of these hubcaps was a real attention getter. We thought it never existed! Because of this, an article had to be developed.

Facts:

1946 was the first year for the large 8 bolt split rim ¾ ton wheel and used a 9” diameter hubcap. This wheel was carried into the 1970’s and was used on GMC and Chevrolet.

The 1946-53 Chevy ¾ ton hubcap were all identical with the same Chevrolet black lettering. Therefore, it was assumed this was the same for GMC. As they both used the same wheel. Appears this was not correct.

This just found used GMC hub cap has the early 3 letter script but its size was the same as on their 1947-1953 ¾ ton. Strange!

If this 3/4 ton GMC hub cap was used all 1946, it will be very surprising.  We have never seen this in our travels and research at hundreds of swap meets in our 41 years!

Even more confusing: This larger 3/4 ton 11” hubcap has its 3 letters with the tail on the “M” just a bit shorter than the 9” ½ ton hubcap!

We can only assume GMC decided to adopt a new updated 3 letter logo “after” the introduction of their first ¾ ton 11” hubcap.
