For the “real” perfectionist
After our 44th year, Jim Carter Truck Parts uncovered a big surprise!
Facts:
Recently, a person came to our lobby offering 10 used ¾ ton hub caps, hoping credit would be offered against a future parts purchase. One of these hubcaps was a real attention getter. We thought it never existed! Because of this, an article had to be created for future interest.
1946 was the first year for the large 8 bolt split rim ¾ ton wheel with a larger 11 inch hub cap and was used on GMC as well as Chevrolet.
For this first year only, GMC now used the same black 3 letters on their larger ¾ ton hub cap as on the smaller (since 1936) ½ ton.
It is almost as if they saved money by using the same letter stamping on both sizes for this one year.
This would be a temporary until mid-1947 when GMC introduced a redesign for both of these hub caps with a totally different upgraded 3 letter logo.
