As our followers know, we try to feature the more unusual. Though many trucks may be more restored and close to a trophy at a show (which is great). But we look for those more unique and are really seen.
This month is no exception! Most of these tilt cabs are lost in the past! Probably worked until they were ready for a salvage yard, and soon sent to the crusher as there were few needs for their parts. This unusual 1962 Chevrolet Series 60 Tilt Cab has been forgotten by most. This example has the longest of the series with 133” wheel base and a 9 foot bed.
The owner, Lee Fossett of Buckner, Missouri purchased it for a price he could not turn down. He really liked its appearance and how the cab “tips forward” to expose the suspension and its 400 cubic inch V-8 gasoline engine for ease of repairing.
The long and tall wood bed is just right for harvest time on farms OR most any lighter hauling needs that do not harm the wood sides.
Lee limped it home only to find it was only its 4 barrel carburetor that needed some serious attention. It is now ready for work or play!
There is so little recorded on these “early” tilt cabs! As it is sometimes said, “We are sharing you these many photos so you can fill a chapter in your diary! A picture is worth a thousand words.”
Maybe a Mistake! :
In 1960 “all” Chevrolet trucks changed to “independent front suspension” (Included ball joints, upper and lower control arms…) in place of their past straight axle system. This had been used since their trucks beginning over 50 years prior.
The “old line” truck buyers were skeptical of such a new suspension system that were even on cars and ½ tons, though a lighter version. So many choose Ford on their tilt cab as they continued with the more proven straight axle system.
Actually, Chevy’s new IFS held up well, but many commercial buyers were not willing to gamble on this new system.

Too bad it will not drive like this! A show stopper in a parade!
