Delivering home heating oil for his father’s business in the greater Boston area took Harry Allen to some diverse neighborhoods.
He was raised around trucks for many years and has an appreciation for old iron. Always on the lookout, he found this 1946, 500-gallon, two-compartment (one for home heating oil and the other for range oil) oil truck resting in a garage for 40 plus years. His curiosity revealed this tired old 1946 1 ½ ton Chevy was last registered in 1959. His love for old iron put it on his have-to-have list and thought it would make a great piece of advertising for his business.
Harry contacted the owner and the rest is history. It arrived at his business in early 2000. Mechanically the truck was in great shape because of its low mileage due to local deliveries. It needed nothing more than a cosmetic restoration with some general maintenance.
Tuning up the original 235 “low pressure” six cylinder, changing the fluids, new wiring, new tires, and a custom paint job with the family’s logo made it a beautiful running and driving truck.
Attention to detail was paramount and it shows today. Harry wanted to restore the truck “AS BUILT”. Now it is probably on of the top oil tankers in the 60 plus years age in the country!
